Joe Henderson, Running Commentary
". . . enough true details and a fast enough pace to please even an envious writer who looked hard for ways to be critical. I read the book
in one sitting, which has only happened two other times in the past ten years."
Chuck Morris, Maine Running
"I admit it. I couldn't put the book down. I needed to know--did Bradley Townes win? Did he beat Rodgers and Seko in the premier
non-Olympic 26-miler--Boston? Tuckman draws you quickly into the Townes' story and his quest for victory over 26 miles and death."
Bill Rodgers
"This book will appeal to a lot of runners, particularly those who, over the years, have felt the urge to 'do Boston.'"

The author, Mark Will-Weber
This is an inspirational book for runners...
When I was almost finished this book, I thought: "Nobody is going to like this stuff expect running fanatics like me!" Since then, almost
30,000 people have read "The Quoteable Runner" & it's been translated into Japanese! I had a lot of fun writing it....my main goal was to
give something to runners that wasn't about "how to" run...But why we SHOULD and why we MUST!!

Sports and Outdoors Editor's Recommended Book -
Forty-some years after the barrier was broken it's difficult to imagine how daunting a challenge the four-minute mile once was, but for a
generation of world-class runners it represented the impossible dream. Roger Bannister, the British middle-distance runner who finally
achieved the epic quest in 1954, wrote this stunning memoir of his life as a runner a year later; intelligent, analytical, dramatic, and
graceful, it remains a sporting classic. Though two introductions have been added in years since, it's a shame that Bannister, a remarkable
man who graduated from Oxford to a distinguished medical career, has never penned a more complete memoir. Still, his achievement as a
young man remains one of the pivotal moments in 20th-century sports, and his account of that achievement is as good a glimpse into a
runner's race toward greatness as has ever been written.

Hal Higdon, author of more than 30 books on running and senior writer for Runner's World magazine, is adept at answering
running-related questions; he also pens the magazine's on-line "Ask the Expert" column. Therefore, it's only natural that Smart Running is
assembled in a Q & A format. Chapters, ranging from "Technique" to "Marathon Training" to "Motivation," are followed by a series of
relevant questions and answers. For instance, in the "Racing" chapter, topics include "Race Taper," "Starting-Line Jitters," "Drinking
Technique," and "Downtime After a Race." Under "Last Meals," a reader queries: "What is a good choice of food the night before a race
and right before the race?" Higdon's reply is thorough, based on race distance, time of race, and experience. He also suggests the use of
nutritional alternatives, such as sports drinks and energy bars, and throws in this long-standing runner's joke: "Your prerace meal should
taste good going down, taste good coming up, and look good on the sidewalk." Comprehensive and light-hearted, Higdon knows
running. --Rob McDonald
